Run a food distribution
A regular table that moves surplus food to people who need it this week.
- Who it is for
- Neighborhoods, parking lots, and union halls
- Time
- 3 to 4 hours per distribution
What you need
- A shade tent or indoor room
- Tables, bags, and gloves
- A cooler for perishable food
- A written pickup plan with the donor
- Two people for intake and two for packing
Steps
- Find one recurring source: a grocer, a farm, or a food bank leftover.
- Pick a site people can reach without a car if you can.
- Set a start and end time. Do not run past the food you have.
- Sort food into family bags. Keep water and produce at the front.
- Ask one question only: how many people are you feeding?
- Leave the site cleaner than you found it. Log leftovers for next time.
Notes
- Do not photograph people in line unless they ask you to.
- If the line is longer than the food, say so early and take names for the next date.
